Prof. Tu attends the 50th session of UNCITRAL Working Group III

From January 20 to 24, 2025, Prof. Guangjian Tu, Professor of the Faculty of Law at UM and a member of the APAEM Financial Innovation Team, was appointed by the China Society of Private International Law (CSPIL) and, as one of the members of the Chinese government delegation, was invited to attend the 50th session of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Working Group III in Vienna, Austria.
During the meeting, Prof. Tu engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges with representatives from various countries and international organizations on topics such as the draft statute of a standing mechanism for the resolution of international investment disputes. Additionally, Prof. Tu, together with some members of the delegation, also had a cordial meeting with Anna Joubin-Bret, Secretary-General of UNCITRAL, and her team members, including Alexander Kunzelmann. They exchanged views on the development of global international trade law and its challenges. On behalf of the Chinese Society of Private International Law, Prof. Tu submitted a proposal for the establishment of a project on the general rules for the operation of online platforms to Secretary-General Anna Joubin-Bret.
UNCITRAL Working Group III recently focuses on the reform of the investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) system. This session, themed on feasible paths for the reform of investment dispute arbitration procedures, attracted significant attention from governments, business community, and international law community around the world.
