On September 9, 2025, Prof. Angus C. Chu, Distinguished Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Team Leader of the Macao Economy Team at the Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management (APAEM), University of Macau (UM), was invited to attend the dialogue forum of “The 11th Cross-Strait, Hong Kong and Macao Economic and Trade Forum” and delivered a speech. During the dialogue session on “New Quality Productivity Forces Empowering New Development,” Prof. Chu systematically elaborated on the view that universities in Macao should focus on areas such as artificial intelligence and robotics to attract global talent and cultivate a reserve force for scientific research, offering recommendations for the development of new productive forces.
This year’s forum, hosted by the Macao Chamber of Commerce, was themed “Expanding Domestic and International Opening-Up to Write a New Chapter.” It brought together over 150 political and business leaders, experts, and scholars from the Cross-Strait, Hong Kong, and Macao regions to engage in in-depth discussions on regional economic development directions and cooperation opportunities.
The “Cross-Strait, Hong Kong, and Macao Economic and Trade Forum” has been held annually since 2012. It aims to consolidate non-governmental forces, enhance interaction and exchange among the business communities of the Cross-Strait, Hong Kong, and Macao regions, and promote the continuous deepening and integrated development of economic, trade, and industrial cooperation across the region.
