On November 18, a delegation from the Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management (APAEM) at the University of Macau (UM), led by UM Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) and APAEM Interim Director Prof. Michael King-man Hui, visited the Transitional Research and Education Sites of UM in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin for an inspection tour. The delegation, which included APAEM Deputy Director Prof. Rob Law; Prof. Degui Li, Team Leader of the Financial Econometrics Team; Prof. Wenjin Kang, Team Leader of the Financial Innovation Team; and Prof. Angus C. Chu, Team Leader of the Macao Economy Team, gained in-depth insights into the current progress of UM’s teaching and research activities in the Cooperation Zone.

During the visit, the delegation toured two key research platforms at the Transitional Research and Education Sites: the Hengqin branch of the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI (UM) and the Hengqin branch of the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (UM). They were also briefed on the construction plan for the industry-academia demonstration base, the University of Macau Advanced Research Institute in Hengqin (HUMRI), and its platform for transforming scientific and technological achievements.

Additionally, the delegation learned that, during this transitional period, teaching and research activities of the new faculties which are to be established on UM’s campus in the Cooperation Zone—including the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Information Science and Technology, the Faculty of Engineering, and the Faculty of Design—are conducted at two Transitional Research and Education Sites in the Cooperation Zone. With a primary focus on postgraduate education, these sites are systematically fostering the integrated development of education, technology, and talent.

Through this visit, the delegation gained a comprehensive understanding of the future development blueprint and planning direction for UM’s campus in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, as well as the latest construction progress in the Cooperation Zone. Aligning with UM’s developmental positioning of “Rooted in Macao, Contributing to the Greater Bay Area’s Development, Integrating with the Nation, and Going Global,” APAEM will continue to advance interdisciplinary research, produce internationally influential key outcomes, and provide high-level think tank support to assist UM in becoming an internationally recognized university.
