Prof. Rob Law and Dr. Arthur Lau

On December 9, Dr. Arthur Lau, Adjunct Professor (in practice) of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management (APAEM) at the University of Macau (UM), visited the Institute. He was warmly welcomed by Prof. Rob Law, APAEM Deputy Director, and the two engaged in a multi-faceted discussion.

During the visit, Prof. Law presented an overview of the Institute’s key research focuses this year. Dr. Lau, drawing on his professional management experience, shared insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with the digital transformation and upgrading of the hospitality industry Both sides concurred that academic research should be more closely aligned with the practical demands of the industry, while innovation within the sector also requires systematic support from theoretical studies. Furthermore, Prof. Law and Dr. Lau held in-depth and pragmatic discussions on industry-academia collaboration, with the goal of further strengthening the Institute’s ties with the industry.

Dr. Lau holds a doctorate in Hotel and Tourism Management from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has extensive management experience across diverse hotel segments, including mega hotel, resort hotel, city hotel, and convention hotel. His primary research interests include hospitality technology and convention services.
