The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) has recently announced the results of grant applications for 2025. The University of Macau (UM) secured funding for 25 projects, including 1 from the Young Scientists Fund (Category A) (formerly known as the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars), 2 from the Young Scientists Fund (Category B) (formerly known as the Excellent Young Scientists Fund), 1 from the Key Program, 8 from the General Program, and 13 from the Young Scientists Fund (Category C) (formerly known as the Young Scientists Fund).
Among the UM-affiliated researchers awarded in this round are Prof. Degui Li, Distinguished Professor at the Faculty of Business Administration and Team Leader of the Financial Econometrics Team at APAEM, as well as Prof. Inácio Bó, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences and member of the APAEM Macao Economy Team.
Prof. Degui Li’s project has been funded under the Young Scientists Fund (Category A). With extensive experience in econometric theory and application, Prof. Li has published widely in leading international journals. His project aims to develop innovative tools and theoretical frameworks for analyzing complex time series econometrics, with potential applications in large-scale economic and financial systems. Meanwhile, Prof. Inácio Bó’s project successfully secured funding under the General Program.
UM stated that the university has not only achieved a record number of funded projects, but has also made significant progress in terms of talent development and key projects, demonstrating its growing integration into the national innovation system. Notably, this is the first time UM has received funding under the Young Scientists Fund (Category A), marking a major breakthrough for Macao in this category of talent programs.
