Ms. Dora VONG

Using real case studies, Ms. VONG demonstrated how banks assess cross-border project financing

Q&A session

On November 28, 2025, the Department of Economics of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) at the University of Macau (UM) hosted a guest lecture featuring Ms. Dora VONG, Manager of the Corporate Finance Department of Tai Fung Bank. The session was moderated by Prof. Sam Ieng Man Ng, Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and a member of APAEM’s Macao Economy Team.

The seminar offered students a valuable opportunity to integrate monetary and banking theory with the practical applications of corporate finance. With nearly twenty years of multinational banking experience, Ms. VONG shared her professional knowledge and practical insights across key areas such as corporate loans, cross-border financing, credit analysis, risk management, and corporate client relationship management.

She walked students through the operational workflows of a corporate finance department—covering loan structure design, the 5C credit analysis model, credit approval processes, contract documentation, and post-loan management—enabling them to better understand how banks facilitate business operations and support large-scale economic activities.

Using real case studies, Ms. VONG also demonstrated how banks assess cross-border project financing, highlighting critical factors such as income stability, industry competition, risk evaluation, collateral requirements, and loan term–cash flow matching. This gave students a clearer, more practical view of how corporate banks evaluate and structure project finance.

During the Q&A, students gained industry-relevant perspectives on challenges and opportunities within the banking sector, especially in the context of Macao and the Greater Bay Area. Ms. VONG also shared career advice from her own professional journey, including how to develop banking expertise, strengthen analytical thinking, and plan for long-term growth in finance.

Beyond supplementing course-based knowledge, the lecture deepened students’ appreciation of the vital role corporate banks play in the financial system and provided meaningful inspiration for those considering careers in banking and finance.
