Prof. Angus C. CHU
Distinguished Professor, Faculty of Social Sciences
Angus C. Chu obtained his PhD in Economics from the University of Michigan. He is currently Distinguished Professor and Head of Department of Economics at the University of Macau. He was previously Chair in Macroeconomics at the University of Liverpool and Professor of Economics at Fudan University. Angus’s research focuses on macroeconomic theory, economic growth, innovation, intellectual property rights, and monetary economics. He is especially interested in economic growth in China. His research appears in journals, such as the European Economic Review, International Economic Review, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Economic Growth, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Money Credit and Banking, and the Review of Economic Dynamics. His textbook Advanced Macroeconomics: An Introduction for Undergraduates was published by World Scientific Publishing in 2020. Its Chinese adaptation, Introduction to Advanced Macroeconomics (with Xilin Wang), was published by Tsinghua University Press in 2021. His latest book Human Origins and Evolution in a Malthusian Economy will be published by World Scientific Publishing in August 2025. According to IDEAS/RePEc Rankings, he is among the top 5% of economists in the world and among the top 30, top 50 and top 80 economists in the fields of intellectual property rights, economic growth, and innovation, respectively. He currently serves as a Co-Editor-in-Chief for Economic Modelling.

Prof. Davis Ka Chio FONG
Professor in Integrated Resort and Tourism Management
Director of Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming
Professor Davis Fong, PhD in Quantitative Economics from Tsinghua University, is the Director of Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming as well as Professor of Integrated Resort and Tourism Management at the Faculty of Business Administration, University of Macau.
Pursuit of academic interest has led him to study in different aspects of gambling and related issues, such as social and economic impacts of gambling, Chinese gambler behavior, gambling disorder, responsible gambling, visitor profile studies, casino operations, tourism management, etc. Prof. Fong has been responsible for more than 60 gambling and tourism related research projects for Macao SAR Government.
Prof. Fong has been appointed by the Government as member of Tourism Development Committee (since 2024) as well as Consultative Committee of Statistics, MSAR (UM Representative, since 2015). Prof. Fong was appointed by the Chief Executive as a former Deputy of the Sixth Legislative Assembly of Macao (2017~2021).

Prof. Alex Sili ZHOU

Prof. Alex Sili Zhou possesses a PhD degree in Finance from Singapore Management University and Master degree in Economics from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Prior joining the University of Macau, he was an Assistant Professor from the Fanhai International School of Finance and School of Economics of Fudan University. His research interests lie in corporate finance, international finance, innovation, and Chinese financial markets.

Prof. Inácio BÓ

Inácio Bó is an Associate Professor of Economics in Social Sciences at the University of Macau. He received his PhD in economics from Boston College. He obtained his master degrees in economics and electric engineering at the Boston College and University of São Paulo, respectively. Inácio Bó’s research interests include Market Design, Matching Theory, and Experimental Economics. His publications have appeared in leading international journals such as the American Economic Journal: Microeconomics, The Economic Journal, Management Science, Games and Economic Behavior, Social Choice and Welfare, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization and so on.

Prof. Lawrence CHOO

Lawrence Choo is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Macau. He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Exeter. His research interests span Experimental Finance, the Design of Information Markets, Social Norms, Bounded Rationality, and Behavioural Economics. His work has been published in leading international journals, including Management Science, European Economic Review, and Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, among others.

Prof. Pei KUANG

Pei Kuang is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Macau. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Goethe University Frankfurt and a Bachelor Degree in Statistics from Renmin University of China. His main research interests are Applied Macroeconomics, Monetary Economics, Expectations and Beliefs. His research has been published in the Journal of Monetary Economics, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Economic Theory, Journal of Monetary Economics, European Economic Review, NBER Macroeconomics Annual, etc.

Prof. Henry Chun Kwok LEI

Chun Kwok LEI, Henry is an Associate Professor of business economics at Faculty of Business Administration, University of Macau. He received his PhD in economics from the Middlesex University, London, the United Kingdom. His research interests includes economic integration, income inequality and convergence, international finance, Macau economy and tourism economics, with publications in International Journal of Finance and Economics, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of International Money and Finance, Journal of Sustainable Tourism, etc. Besides, he is the vice-chairman in the Commission for the Evaluation of the Remuneration of Civil Servant of the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau (SAFP) of Macau SAR Government from 2020 until now, the standby member in the Advisory Committee of the Statistics and Census Service of the Macau SAR Government from 2023 until now, and the vice-chairman of the executive board of the Macau Economic Association from 2016 until now. He has been actively involving in surveys and consultancy projects on various economics and social issues of Macau.

Prof. Jia YUAN

YUAN Jia is an Associate Professor of Business Economics at the University of Macau. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor Degree in Physics from the Peking University. His main research interests are Applied Economics, Behavioral Economics, and Environmental Economics. His research has been published in the Journal of Comparative Economics, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, Economic Inquiry, Ecological Economics, Review of Industrial Economics, China Economics Review, etc.

Prof. Yang ZHANG

Brenda Yang ZHANG is an Associate Professor of business economics at Faculty of Business Administration, University of Macau. She obtained her Ph.D. in economics from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Her research interests include economic dynamics, energy economics, innovation and corporate finance. Her publications have appeared in leading international journals such as the Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization and Energy Economics among others. Dr Zhang was visiting scholar to University of Cambridge in 2013 and currently serves as Assistant Editor of Singapore Economic Review.

Prof. Fung KWAN

Fung Kwan’s research centers on the labour market, agriculture, productivity & efficiency, and growth. He was a visiting fellow at Clare Hall, Cambridge UK and Brandeis University US. He is an advisor of the Economic Development Committee of the Macao SAR Government. His current research projects on Macao include the ongoing “A Macroeconometric Model for Macao”, presenting annual economic forecasts of the local economy; the “Greater Bay of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao – Economic Diversification, Progress, and Convergence”, offering an index to measure the economic progress of GBA; and the 《針對低薪行業進行有關薪酬階梯連鎖反應的研究》, a local government commissioned consultancy project on the linkage effect of wage ladders in the low-pay industries. On China, he is working on land and migration decision, efficiency of hog production, and China’s growth decomposition. Selected publications include “Surplus Agricultural Labour and Its Implications to China’s Lewis Turning Point” China Economic Review 48:244-257, and “Labour Reallocation, Productivity Growth and Dualism in China” International Review of Economics and Finance 57: 198-210. Fung’s research covers various economic issues of the mainland China, the Greater Bay Area, and Macao, the most dynamic regions in Asia in the 21st century.

Prof. Leona Shao-Zhi LI

Leona Shao-Zhi LI is an Assistant Professor in Business Economics at Faculty of Business Administration, University of Macau. She obtained her degrees from Peking University (B.A.), Columbia University (M.A.), and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Ph.D.). Her research interests include economic development, international trade, and the economics of entrepreneurship. Her papers have appeared in refereed economics journals such as the Journal of Development Economics and Journal of Business Venturing.

Prof. Hoipan Wong possesses a PhD degree in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis and Master degree in Economics from New York University. Prior joining the University of Macau, he was an Assistant Professor from School of Finance of Nankai University. His research interests lie in Wealth Inequality, Growth and Development, and Financial Economics.
