Recently, Prof. Du Li of the Faculty of Law at the University of Macau and his doctoral student Wang Zhangyu published a commentary article in the prestigious science journal, Nature. The article highlighted the regulatory challenges of data sharing and cooperation in genomics research between China and the United States. They argued that prioritizing responsible and open sharing of genomic data in key health areas, such as cancer research, treatment of chronic diseases, and pandemic prevention, can be mutually beneficial and could also positively impact global health. They encouraged both countries to use scientific advancement and health innovation as guiding principles in regulatory efforts to enhance collective benefits. Prof. Du Li’s research team has been concentrating on the legal aspects of cross-border health data flow and international genomics research collaboration. The publication in Nature Magazine not only acknowledges the achievements of Prof. Du’s team but also highlights the significance of this issue, emphasizing the urgent need to establish international cooperation standards in this field.
