The passage connecting UM to Lotus Bridge and Prof. Law
The construction about the bridge connecting UM and the Hengqin Port was completed on July 31, 2023. Prof. Rob Law, Deputy Director of APAEM stated in an interview with Southern Finance Media journalist, the new passage provides much convenience for vehicles traveling between the two sides. The UM-Taipa underwater tunnel will no longer be the sole passage accessing to UM, which greatly eases the current traffic congestion problem.
This UM-Hengqin Port Connecting Bridge is located on the south side of the Lotus Bridge with a total length of 808 meters. The bridge mainly connects the Hengqin Port with the UM campus and provides the pedestrian walkway. Prof. Rob Law commented that, the construction takes pedestrians into consideration, allowing teachers, students, and staffs to cross border conveniently.
According to the approval of the Chinese State Council, the bridge was handed over to Macao at midnight on August 1, 2023. However, the official opening date will be determined in conjunction with the progress of the Hengqin Port Phase II project. All parties in the society are looking forward to the new passage being put into use and providing better conditions for the in-depth cooperation between Hengqin and Macao.
