Prof. Xin Lin delivers a speech at the MCLS 2024 Conference
Recently, Prof. Xin Lin, Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Education (FED) at UM and member of the APAEM Smart Tourism Team, attended the Mathematical Cognition and Learning Society (MCLS) 2024 Conference at Gallaudet University in the United States. Prof. Lin presented a paper entitled “Domain-general and domain-specific antecedents of pre-algebraic knowledge: Focusing on English-language learners with word-problem difficulty”.
In her speech, Prof. Lin introduced the mathematics vocabulary intervention conducted by her research team, highlighting the unique and combined effects of fraction vocabulary and arithmetic instruction. In addition, during the lightning talk, Prof. Lin discussed the domain-general and domain-specific antecedents of pre-algebraic knowledge, with a particular focus on English Language Learners who experience difficulties with word problems. MCLS is the only organization to connect scholars from all around the globe to facilitate the communication of scientific research on mathematical cognition and learning, and advance the study of its typical and atypical development, neural substrates, genetic and environmental influences, cultural variation, and malleability.
