The University of Macau’s (UM) 6th module of the Global Leadership Development Programme (GLDP) kicked off today (November 30) with an opening ceremony held at Sheraton Grand Macau Hotel in Sands Cotai Central and was hosted by Professor Shigemi Furuta, Programme Director of APAEM. The ceremony was joined by over 40 executives with various background from Macau, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia and honorable guests included Professor Rui Martins, Vice Rector (Global Affairs) of UM; Professor Jacky So, Dean of FBA of UM and Director of APAEM; Mr. Naoki Yoshiike, Consul (Economic) of Consulate General of Japan in Hong Kong. The programmed is jointly organized by the UM’s Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management (APAEM) and Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) and takes place from November 30 to December 3.
With the aim of nurturing internationally-competitive and socially-responsible leaders in the Asia-Pacific region, the APAEM focused on the current development of integrated resorts in Japan and shared Macao’s experiences and insights on integrated resorts in this module. The core theme of this 6th module is ‘Contextual Mindset in Integrated Resort’. The four-day module comprises 5 seminars and includes theoretical knowledge presented by scholars and government official from Macao, group presentation and site inspections at different properties of Integrated Resorts in Macau. Davis Fong, director of UM’s Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming, as well as associate professor Ricardo Siu and assistant professor Morris Liu from the FBA conducted integrated resort-related seminars, which focus on ‘Applied Economics for Leisure Industries’, ‘Gaming Policy and Responsible Gaming’, and ‘Managerial Accounting in Hospitality and Gaming’. The participants will also be invited to attend the 7th World Business Ethics Forum at Banyan Tree Macau on December 3.
Every year, the APAEM organises a variety of executive development programmes. The previous four modules focused on hospitality and MICE and were successfully held in Macao, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Singapore and Seoul (South Korea). The fifth module focused on International Integrated Resort Management and was held in Nagasaki, Japan in July 2018. The Academy plans to launch its 7th and 8th module in Japan in 2019.
