Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management (APAEM) of the University of Macau (UM), together with a local company, Boardware, participated in the BEYOND Expo held in the Venetian Macau on 2-4 Dec, 2021. APAEM’s main exhibits are the projects of “A Custom Tour Itinerary Robot based on Deep Reinforcement Learning” and “A Smart Guided Tour Via VR for Historic Buildings” led by Prof. Alfred Wong.

Luo Chen (Lucy), a first-year mechatronics master student from Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), was interviewed by CCTV and Shenzhen TV during this exhibition. She was interviewed about the application and reflection of the project “A Custom Tour Itinerary Robot based on Deep Reinforcement Learning”  developed by UM students, combining the technological innovation and the tourism features of Macau.

A Custom Tour Itinerary Robot based on Deep Reinforcement Learning” : This project aims to provide a personalized travel itinerary robot using deep reinforcement learning to collect relevant data in the Macao context as the application foundation for this project, such as the location of attractions, value, transportations and other routes. Given the limited travel time , the distance and the fraction of the scenic spot, the robot can find the route with the highest total fraction in a very short time.

A Smart Guided Tour Via VR for Historic Buildings” : The objective of this project is to create a series of VR intelligent tours of historic buildings through collecting information stories and intelligent guided tours of historic buildings. A 3D model of the Macau skyline, attracting more interest and creating a new tourist attraction for Macau. By displaying the building model and introducing the intelligent guide platform, we can preserve and promote the information of the historic buildings digitally. The model is based on 3D modeling and VR technology. By inputting the collected data into the 3D model, users will be able to use VR technology to look inside and around the building, to increase their interest in further exploration. As the representative of the modern academic library, the WU Yee-sun Library of the UM takes the UM Library as the starting point, and skillfully combines the background information of history, culture and VR intelligence, to develop a new mode of “Immersive” online travel so as to attract more tourists to explore new attractions and get to know Macau better.
