Recently, the Interim Director of APAEM and Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) of the University of Macau, Prof. Michael Hui, was interviewed by TDM about his opinions on the distribution of cash coupon for consumption in 2023.
Prof. Hui commented that he thought there is no urgent need for government to offer the new round of cash coupon for consumption as the local economy has been revived and tourist arrivals have started reaching the pre-covid level. If the cash coupon for consumption is continued to offer to citizens, the distribution might drive inflation up. Nonetheless, he believes that government would have other specific measures to help small medium businesses and/or those who are in need.
