The 7th Lecture on Frontiers in Humanities organized by the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences (IAS) was successfully held at the Lecture Hall of the Cultural Building (E34) on 22 April 2022 (Friday).

Professor Rob Law, the Senior Research Fellow of the IAS, Deputy Director of Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management, Chair Professor in Integrated Resort and Tourism Management, Faculty of Business Administration, was invited to give a lecture on the topic “Research Performance Evaluation: Are We Doing It Right?”, shared his fruitful research achievements in the field of academic assessment. Professor Ryan U, the Research fellow of IAS, Associate Professor of Faculty of Science and Technology, was invited to be the moderator.

The lecture adopted a combination of online and offline modes and attracted professionals, students, alumni, and external audiences from different academic backgrounds. During the lecture, Professor Law discussed the perceived importance of various research-related items from the perspective of university program heads. He further confirmed that the number of papers is indeed an effective measure of research performance by analyzing empirical findings from worldwide respondents. At the same time, Professor Law expressed expectations, that more diverse evaluation criteria need to be constructed to support those who devoted themselves to academic research.

This lecture belongs to the cluster of “New Opportunities at the Intersection of Humanities and Sciences” of the IAS. We will continue to launch high-quality academic activities in major research fields, to promote cross-border cooperation and diversified dialogue in various fields of humanities and social sciences and contribute to the construction of an interdisciplinary and high-level university research platform.
